We will reach our ... Ithaca

Much was heard and read about yesterday (08.08) methodical attitude of the Municipal Councillors of the faction of Mr.Harhalakis and the Mayor himself, in the invitation of the opposition for a Municipal Council on the issue of water of Kythera.

The first point I would like to make, referring mainly to the institution of the Mayor, is the following: the Mayor and his associates are pioneers, they are revolutionaries, they are the ones who demonstrate the problems of the place even to citizens who are not interested and ask for their support, they discuss and cooperate with everyone for solutions and proposals. The Mayor and his colleagues say BRAWF to the citizens who are concerned about their place, he awakens them and raises their awareness. The Mayor and his colleagues inspire respect. Unfortunately, the Mayor and his associates on this island are infinite miles away from that vision! Concerned citizens are treated with derision ,irony, arrogance and most of all they are TRADERS AND ONLY in their "clandestine operations" (chirpy borrowing). They destroy the democratic processes since the convening of this city council was by all means legal. In common, they disparage everyone, at all levels: the citizens, the Councillors but generally the Cypriots who call them to cooperate.

The second point worth mentioning is some thoughts on the Councillors of the 'Καινούργια Μέρα, Κύθηρα - Αντικύθηρα' faction:

You belong to a faction, which is legitimate. The faction, often densely, gives guidelines, and that's legitimate. But do not assume that after yesterday's fiasco you will hide behind thieves for not participating on such a serious island issue. You have a personal responsibility for your actions that are against democratic processes. You have a name, you live among us and you will not be lost tomorrow in the "crowd" of the people of Kythera. How will you face your fellow citizens when you played so dirty, disregarding all those who attended the Town Hall to discuss with you? And unfortunately I am not speaking politically anymore but in terms of democracy and basic humanity : when a democratic process is taking place , I respond even if my opinion is contrary! If this is again a visionary, then let me be classed among the visionaries and the graphic people of this place !

In conclusion , I would like to stress that Odysseus also set out from Troy with a vision: to reach Ithaca. It took him ten years! We are already in our tenth year with the same turbulence and the same broken ship, but the vision of how much better we want Tsirigo to be is there waiting for us. It's just going to take a little longer...
