To whom it may concern

Dear Costas, I am not judging, I am simply pointing out the discrepancy between your matter-of-fact, condescending character and the text you are signing. E.g. the phrase: "I will not tolerate this kind of behaviour which undermines the role of the City Council" does not seem to make much sense, as you have so far tolerated everything with admirable constitution and meekness - and I thank you for that. For the plastic bottle I threw away in anger I apologise but frankly, do you have anything else to say about the farce you have conducted as chairman? Sleeping stars, waking soldiers. But what mainly remains from this same phrase is the illusion of the prestige of the City Council, a disreputable body whose powers have been hijacked (by the electoral law) by the Municipal Commission and which serves the mayor only to vote for balance sheets of ... 2015 by the crossbenchers of the coalition with the rich vocabulary of two words: 'present' and 'in favour'.

I have my principles, and if you don't like them I have a few more. I'm saving for the anthology the lovely note of August surrealism: "They have tried to ride roughshod over the will of the members of the City Council who are free to act on the ... orders they have received," and I hope someday to be privy to its secret meaning myself. Come home this afternoon, there will be no one there. I will not physically attend the Board's reconvened meeting because there will not be a quorum (as the treaty invoked by the opposition to boycott it has not changed). Fortunately this time we know this in advance and there is no need to run to the "flower of democracy" at lunchtime, nor is there any need for further exposure to rudeness (we ought not to accept it as normal). After all, anything of substance was already discussed in the actual debate that followed the Council's denigration - and which can be watched online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-dCu_EXYHE

As for the 3rd and final meeting (where there will be a quorum) I guess that the obscure councillors will reappear and, at the risk of some uncontrollable decision being taken, they will cease to be bothered by the fact that "Zacharias' motion is a monument to mediocrity". The firm conviction and the horizon of the foreseeable future. Of course the emergency measures for water scarcity are foolish to be discussed at the end of August, so until then adopt these simple ones we told you the day before yesterday: 1. Where a water supply problem occurs, bring a water truck, distribute small parcels, make sure that all our vulnerable fellow human beings have at least some water for the basics; 2. At least roughly cover the black pipe you laid on the asphalt in St. Pelagia; and 3. Start looking now for someone suitable to take over the water supply issue professionally from September.

Sincerely, Andreas Mariatos
